HOBBY SPOTLIGHT
Did you know? During film photography, a roll of light-sensitive film is placed within the camera. When the shutter of the camera is open, the film is exposed to light and an impression is captured. After the exposure is made, the photographer rolls the film forward so a fresh section of unexposed film is ready for the next photo. Film photography often produces a distinct look, with its characteristic grain, color palette, and subtle imperfections that many find appealing. What Stella likes about film photography: • Film photography is laborious, and the results aren’t instant. It teaches her to be more patient and more mindful when taking photos. • She loves taking pictures because they make herexcited to grow old and have proof of good times. They remind her of nice memories and things she has survived. What Stella finds challenging: • Film is expensive. • Finding time to practice and document more things. Stella is a Social Media Specialist for ASCO based in Manila. She took an interest in film photography four years ago during the pandemic. While digital photography has become the dominant medium, film photography continues to thrive, particularly among those who appreciate its unique qualities, and the artistic process involved.
